    < Back Swedish Institute Management Program Diploma Presentation Ceremony 18 Jan 2024 On the evening of Tuesday, 16 January, SweCham had the pleasure of supporting the Swedish Institute Management Programโ€™s (SIMP) Diploma ceremony with the Swedish Alumni Network Thailand (SANT) held at the Swedish Residence. The evening commenced with an address by H.E. Anna Hammargren, our ambassador, emphasising the significance of SANT initiatives and its role in fostering connections between the two nations. Following the Ambassadorโ€™s opening remarks, we were privileged to hear from Trade Commissioner Kacper Pierzynowski. In his speech, Kacper underscored the significance of SIMP, highlighting its pivotal role in enhancing relations with key stakeholders in Thailand. The highlight of the evening was when H.E. Anna Hammargren conferred the diplomas for the SIMP graduates. SIMP is a programme for ambitious thought leaders who want to bridge the gap between desired action and sustainability. It offers the tools for people to take charge and move to the next level. SANT celebrated its accomplishments from the past year at this special event, showcasing impactful activities, including the Plogging initiative, a roundtable discussion on โ€˜Plastic Waste: Management and Social Awarenessโ€™ hosted by Tetra Pak, and insightful professional networking sessions on โ€˜Career Development to Secure Your Future.โ€™ with a special speaker from IKEA. SANTโ€™s valuable contribution to the Swedish Education and Career Days 2023, promoting Swedish education for Thai students, further cemented the SANT commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. Khun Chaidarun Tippawan, SANT Chairperson, further took the stage to express heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing 2023 Board for their unwavering dedication and hard work. Moving forward, we are excited to announce that our Executive Director, Dr Pojanath Bhatanacharoen, a proud Sweden alumna, will join the new SANT Board 2024 as their advisor, lending her expertise and insights to guide the SANT community towards even greater achievements.     < Back Public Attitudes Towards Migrant Workers in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand by Rapid Asia SweCham member, Rapid Asia, who specialises in social research and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) consulting conducted an interesting research and published report earlier this year. In 2019, Rapid Asia carried out a major survey on attitudes towards migrant workers in four countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and Japan). The study was conducted on behalf of the ILO and UN Women. The study tracks trends of attitudes against a similar study carried out in 2011. The findings indicated respondents in all countries held unfavourable attitudes towards migrant workers and attitudes had also worsened somewhat in 2019. Full report here. Previous Next

Let us recap the key highlights and share insights from this successful gathering! On the evening of Thursday, 5 September, SweCham was delighted to host its first networking event following the summer break. The event began with a welcoming remark from our president, Khun Peter Bjรถrk, who thanked our members and partners for their ongoing support. This was then followed by an introduction from our hotel partner, Eastin Grand hotel Sathorn , represented by General Manager Khun Chutima Kaewta Fortescue. Following the introductory remarks, SweCham had the pleasure of welcoming Secretary General Khun Narit Therdsteerasukdi from the Board of Investment (BOI) as our special speaker of the evening. With over two decades of experience in investment promotion and economic policy, Khun Narit delivered an insightful presentation on Thailand's investment environment. The presentation provided a thorough overview of key factors that will influence investment trends over the next five years and outlined how the BOI can support foreign investors in this context. Furthermore, SweChamโ€™s Executive Director, Khun Dr. Pojanath Bhatanacharoen, had arranged for audience questions in advance, creating an opportunity for an open Q&A session with Khun Narit and other BOI representatives. It was the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the topics discussed, allowing attendees to gain further insights in Thailandโ€™s economic landscape. We extend our sincere thanks to the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn โ€™s catering team for their fantastic food and excellent service, which added a dynamic touch to the networking and socialising event. The Business climate survey is a bi-annual project conducting to allow the Swedish companies in Thailand the opportunity to share their valuable opinions on business-related matters. The survey concludes that โ€˜red tapeโ€™ and corruption remain major challenges when doing business in Thailand. Tungasmita from the Department of Chemistry and Dr Sukkaneste Tungasmita (Sweden alumnus, Linkรถping University) from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University who visited SweCham on Thursday, 5 July. The meeting focused on the roles of the Swedish companies and the academia in promoting a sustainable future. The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between the academia and the chemical industry for the future of sustainability within the electronics industry. In an effort to speed up the transition to a sustainable future, the Faculty of Sciences at Chulalongkorn University is organising the Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences 2023 (EuAsC2) event in December. This yearโ€™s event revolves around the theme of โ€˜Frontiers in Chemical Sciences for Sustainability,โ€™ encompassing crucial discussion points such as green processes, Carbon Capture, Renewable energy, and Chemical and biosensors. During the meeting, we discussed the possibilities for SweCham and the industries to engage with the EuAsC2 event as well as fostering collaboration between the private sector and the academia. Recognising the crucial role sustainability plays, we would like to emphasise the importance of a triple bottom line approach and the interconnectedness of economic, environmental, and social factors in achieving sustainable success.
