  • Dementia Prediction Programme by Samitivej Hospital

< Back Dementia Prediction Programme by Samitivej Hospital 30 Jun 2023 HIGHLIGHTS Early-onset dementia tends to affect those of working age. Its causes are generally related to stress or depression associated with a person’s career. This can mean that the condition is often neglected, resulting in patients being unaware of the danger they are in. Symptoms of early onset dementia may not be solely presented through forgetfulness, as stress, depression and withdrawal from social and familial circles may also occur. Dementia refers to the degeneration in various forms of brain function, for which the symptoms come and go, resulting in dysfunction of thought, memory, reasoning, and communication capabilities, as well as personality changes or irregularities. In some cases, patients may experience mood swings, stress, and depression or refuse to comply and withdraw from society altogether. Dementia usually affects those over the age of 65. However, it can affect people between the ages of 30-65, too. Early-onset dementia is now found in up to 6.9% of all dementia cases, with most of that number being made up of working-age patients who may have overlooked the condition as merely being a part of the stress or depression that results from their careers. Nevertheless, in overlooking the condition and mistaking it for a benign illness, the patients are actually ignoring something with the potential to become extremely dangerous. The latest research focuses on certain proteins being associated with dementia. A simple blood test can evaluate the presence of these proteins and help establish a risk score for developing early-onset of dementia. • Volvo Car Thailand ‘Closer to realising full-electric ambitions’

< Back Volvo Car Thailand ‘Closer to realising full-electric ambitions’ 26 Apr 2023 Volvo Car (Thailand) continued to strengthen its position as the leader in the premium electric segment by recording full-year sales growth of 71% in 2022, as consumers showed an increasing appetite to drive electric-powered vehicles. The rapid growth of electric vehicle sales takes the company a step closer to realising its goal of being a fully electric car company in Thailand in 2025. Despite the production restraints caused by component shortages, the demand for Volvo Cars in Thailand remained robust, with sales of fully electric models, including the C40 Recharge Pure Electric and the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, growing by 190 percent during the year of 2022, accounting for over one-third of total vehicle sales. Volvo Cars’ Recharge line-up also reported a sales increase of 24 percent, amounting to 64.8 percent of the company’s total sales volume. Among the top-selling models were the XC60 Recharge Ultimate T8 Plug-in Hybrid (22.7% of sales), the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric (22.2%), the XC40 Recharge Ultimate T5 Plug-in Hybrid (14.7%), the C40 Recharge Pure Electric (13%) and the V60 Recharge Ultimate T8 Plug-in Hybrid (9.1%). To commemorate its 50th year of operation in Thailand this year, the company also announced an ambitious plan to sell only fully electric cars in Thailand in 2025, five years ahead of the company’s global target. “This year marks a special occasion as Volvo Car introduced our first model to Thailand 50 years ago with a promise of safe driving. As we embark on our next 50 years, we extend our promise of safe driving to include protecting the environment and the world we live in. We are delighted that drivers in Thailand are so enthusiastic about electric-powered vehicles, and we are confident that our bold ambition to sell only full electric cars in 2025 will be successful,” said Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car (Thailand) Limited . Reinforcing Volvo’s commitment to using clean energy for a sustainable future, four dealerships were chosen to house Solar Carport charging station installations, helping to lower electricity bills and reduce carbon emissions. Volvo Car Thailand also built closer connections with consumers as part of the “Live Life Better with Volvo” campaign, which encourages people to become more conscious of the environment and communicate the importance of living life sustainability. Adventurous outdoor activities hosted by Volvo included cycling and trail running, giving Thais an opportunity to explore their thrill-seeking side and get in touch with nature. Southeast Asia’s first brand experience center, Volvo Studio Bangkok, also hosted a number of fun and interesting events and activities throughout the year. “In line with our promise to launch at least one new electric car every year, in 2023, we will continue to strengthen our position as a leader in the premium electric segment by launching two new Pure Electric models that will further raise our standards in safety and a more sustainable lifestyle. We will continue to be pioneers in the protection of people and the planet and achieve our goal of being a fully electric car company in 2025 in Thailand, five years ahead of our global target,” “Looking ahead, Volvo will continue to shape the future of mobility with safety and sustainability in mind. We have made it our mission to make life easier, better, and safer, so everyone can live life to the fullest,” added Chris. • Get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine at Samitivej Hospital

< Back Get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine at Samitivej Hospital 22 Apr 2024 Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness caused by the dengue virus, is a major public health concern in tropical and subtropical regions like Bangkok. While symptoms can range from mild to severe, the potential for serious complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS) makes prevention crucial. Although only a small percentage (around 10%) of those with severe symptoms have DHF or DSS, the risk of death becomes significant if these complications are not promptly addressed. Fortunately, there was a very low mortality rate for dengue fever, with less than 1% of cases proving fatal. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to maintaining this positive statistic. Symptoms to watch for 🔹Sudden high fever (up to 105°F or 40°C) 🔹Headache 🔹Muscle and joint pain 🔹Nausea and vomiting 🔹Red rash or spots in the abdomen, arms and leg, and blackened stools 🔹Fatigue Diagnosis and treatment Dengue fever is diagnosed based on symptoms and medical history, with potential blood tests for confirmation. There is no specific cure, but treatment focuses on supportive measures like rest, fluids, pain relievers, and fever reducers. In severe cases, hospitalisation may be necessary. Prevention measures The best overall prevention method is to avoid mosquito bites: 🔹Use insect repellent 🔹Wear long-sleeved clothing and pants 🔹Eliminate standing water sources around your home Don't forget to take your family to get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine. It is a powerful tool in the fight against dengue fever.
