It was a truly memorable Mothers’ Day weekend for Thailand’s newly-crowned, and the world’s youngest-ever, world badminton champion Khun May Ratchanok Inthanon (3rd from right).
The 18 year old from Roi-Et was competing in the finals of the Badminton World Federation World Championships last weekend in Guangzhou, China. Before beating off the best in the world to clinch the title, Khun May commented to Thai journalists that regardless of the outcome of her match, she wanted to return to Thailand on Mother’s Day and buy her mother a new washing machine and refrigerator.
Electrolux General Manager, Sutti Manokitjarunman, (pictured 3rd from left) saw the young Thai girl’s wish while watching the news, and immediately contacted Channel 3 to pledge the latest Electrolux models of washing machine and refrigerator to help make her wish come true. In addition to receiving an Electrolux’s 9-kilogram Time Manager washing machine, Khun May’s mother (pictured 2nd right) will also receive a new triple door, 12 cu ft Nutri-fresh refrigerator which has yet to go on sale in Thailand.
“Mother’s Day is a very special day for all Thais, to honour of Her Majesty, the Mother of our nation,” said Khun Sutti. “Khun May’s Mother’s Day wish truly showed her good heart, and we were determined to help her wish for her mother comes true. The fact that she then went on to her inspirational win, is an even greater cause for Thais to celebrate this wonderful achievement together.”
