New Executive Director of Thai-Swedish Chamber of Commerce

On September 3, 2018, the Chamber will begin a new chapter when Pojanath Bhatanacharoen takes over the role as Executive Director of the TSCC.

Tell us a bit about your background before joining the Chamber.
I was born in Bangkok but grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden.  I then moved to England to study at Newcastle University and completed a PhD in Politics in 2009.  Since moving back to Thailand three years ago, I’ve work for a Thai OEM and gained experience in business development, sales and marketing.

Why is an organisation like the TSCC important?
As a collective network, the TSCC plays a crucial role in projecting a voice that protects and advances the interests of Swedish businesses in Thailand.  This in turn strengthens trade relations and benefits both countries.

What are you most excited about?
I look forward to working in a multi-cultural environment and collaborating with the Swedish business community in Thailand and local authorities.  I’m also very excited about building on the excellent cooperation with Nordic Chambers and other joint chambers to widen the network.

What do you believe will be the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge will be how to best support the Board of Governors in addressing long-term structural issues affecting the Swedish business community, such as local bureaucracy, high-skilled labour shortage and other barriers to doing business in Thailand.

What will be your biggest priority when you join?
Initially, my priority will be to continue the work of TSCC in proactively creating knowledge-sharing and networking platforms which will help current TSCC members explore the market opportunities in Thailand as well as attract new members.

Katarina Ekelund, who is leaving the Chamber after excellent collaboration, will be assisting with the transition period to ensure a smooth hand-over. Questions and inquiries can be sent to director@swecham.com.
